Travis Homer
Travis Homer Could have role in offense
Mon, Jun 12, 2023, 1:43 PM
Homer figures to be a key special teamer for the Bears and could also earn a role on passing downs, Brad Biggs of The Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: He struggled to stay healthy in Seattle and didn't get many opportunities as a runner, but Homer nonetheless managed to develop a reputation for pass-blocking while also handling a lot of special teams snaps whenever healthy. The 2019 sixth-round pick signed a two-year, $4 million deal with $1.75 million guaranteed this March, making him part of a Chicago backfield that also includes Khalil Herbert, D'Onta Foreman and rookie fourth-rounder Roschon Johnson.

Analysis: The 26-year-old appeared in three games for the Giants last year and caught 10 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown before undergoing season-ending surgery in November. A 2018 second-round pick by San Francisco, Pettis has failed to find much success since totaling 467 receiving yards and five scores during his rookie campaign.

Sharpe agreed to a one-year contract with the Bears on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Ryan Willis Chicago lets him go
Wed, May 11, 2022, 3:58 PM
Willis was cut by the Bears on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com.
Analysis: Willis joined the Bears' practice squad last December, and he did dress for their Week 16 contest against Seattle but stayed on the sidelines. Willis had earned a reserve/future contract with the Bears in January, but it appears his NFL future may have to continue elsewhere.
Nathan Peterman

Analysis: Peterman spent the last two seasons in Las Vegas, appearing in two games and totaling 15 offensive snaps. The 2017 fifth-round pick will compete with Trevor Siemian for the backup spot behind Justin Fields.

Tuggle signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent Monday, Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site reports.
Analysis: Tuggle played in 12 contests for the University of Ohio last season, getting 138 carries for 804 yards and seven touchdowns, while also collecting 16 catches for 156 yards and two more touchdowns. He chipped in on kick returns as well, with a total of 495 yards on 24 attempts, plus a touchdown. With no obvious option behind David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert on the Bears' running back depth chart, Tuggle could earn himself a roster spot if he impresses in camp.

The Bears selected Gill in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 255th overall.
Analysis: Gill is a punter out of North Carolina State. It's a reasonable pick for a team that drafted as if it expects, or even wishes, to punt as often as possible in 2022.
Goes to Chicago

The Bears selected Hicks in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 254th overall.
Analysis: Hicks, a California product, had a career-high 72 tackles as a fifth-year senior in 2021. He showed a nose for the ball, too, as he forced four fumbles in 12 games. Hicks did not receive a combine invite and will start his career on the fringe of the Bears' roster.

The Bears selected Carter in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 226th overall.
Analysis: Coming from the FCS ranks at Southern, Carter is a 311-pound guard who received a combine invite. He showed NFL-level athleticism with above-average results in his runs and jumps. Carter projects to be a backup interior lineman early in his career.
Staying in-state, headed to Chicago
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 3:55 PM
The Bears selected Kramer in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 207th overall.
Analysis: Kramer is an undersized center from Illinois, but he might make it as an NFL center anyway thanks to his standout athleticism (4.95-second 40). He'll be a worthwhile developmental center for the Bears.
Headed north to Chicago
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 3:47 PM
The Bears selected Ebner in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 203rd overall.
Analysis: James Cook didn't do anything at Georgia that Ebner failed to do at Baylor -- both are pass-catching specialist running backs -- and Ebner even has better size-adjusted speed with a 4.43-second 40 at 5-foot-11, 206 pounds (Cook was credited with a 4.42 at 199 pounds), yet Ebner goes here four rounds later. Ebner is a natural pass catcher to the point that he can actually line up at wide receiver rather than just catch passes out of the backfield, and the Bears are notably short on proven pass catchers. Ebner is no doubt a long shot to provide fantasy value -- he needs to worry about making the team first -- but there is a chance that the Bears need him to catch a surprisingly high number of passes early in his career.
Windy City bound
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 3:01 PM
The Bears selected Thomas in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 186th overall.
Analysis: Thomas played all over the line at San Diego State, including right guard and both tackle spots. He showed solid athleticism at the combine with a sub-5.0 in the 40 at 308 pounds. Thomas projects as a depth option at tackle for the Bears.
Heads to Windy City
Sat, Apr 30, 2022, 2:26 PM
The Bears selected Robinson in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 174th overall.
Analysis: Recruited as a quarterback at Miami of Ohio who moved to receiver early in his college career, Robinson grew into a 6-foot-5, 253-pound force off the edge later on with the RedHawks. Robinson had an impressive showing at the combine to cement his status in the draft, including a 41-inch vertical. He's short on production but has tools and upside that make him a worthwhile bet for Chicago at this stage of the draft.
